Opportunity: Deputy Organiser(s)

Unpaid • Remote • Closing Date 14 June 2026 11.55pm

The Selkie Awards are inviting applications for the voluntary role(s) of Deputy Organiser.

Who we are

The Selkie Comic Awards aim to promote Scotland’s independent and small-press comics scene. Inspired by the SICBA Comic Book Awards, which ran from 2011-2019, the award aims to recognise talent from across Scotland, including those who have limited access to in-person comic events.

The Awards take place in three stages: an open submission period, during which creators from across Scotland can submit their comics and graphic novels for consideration; a shortlisting process, when a team of shortlisting judges decide on the top 5 comics for each category; and a final judging process, where a three-person judging panel decides on the winners of each category. The winners are announced in an online awards event, and shortlisted comics are displayed (with their creators’ permission) in an exhibition in Edinburgh.

What we’re looking for

As the Selkies moves into its third year, we are hoping to recruit one or more volunteer Deputy Organisers to help facilitate the awards and ensure their long-term success.

As a Deputy Organiser, you would contribute to the following:

Ideally, we are looking for candidates who meet the following criteria:

The awards run between July and late December each year, with the busiest period taking place between August and September. During this period, we’d expect volunteers to be able to contribute a minimum of 1 afternoon a week (or equivalent) towards the awards.

Please note that, in the interest of fairness, volunteers will not be able to submit comics to the Selkies while in post, and comics that feature volunteers as part of the creative team will be ineligible for consideration.

To express your interest in this voluntary position, please fill in the form below.
